Tom Dowd on Capturing a Band's Sound

Tom Dowd was known to walk into the tracking room and stand by each band member and listen and then stand in the center of the room and listen. Afterwards, he would walk back into the control room and make what came out of the speakers sound like what he heard when standing next to the band.
